6 Tips to Healthy Eating
You may very well be eating a healthy diet or you may be one that is struggling. Whichever category you fit into, I’m here to help you with 6 tips to healthy eating that shouldn’t be too challenging.
- Replace your salt shaker with spices. Are you the typical person that uses the salt and pepper shaker? If so, there’s an entirely new world that awaits you…spices. No, I’m not talking about Tabasco or barbecue sauce. I’m talking about using blended spices – preferably non-salt spices – that will enhance the flavor of your food and open your palette to entirely new flavors. One of my favorite spices is roasted garlic powder. Oh yum! I add that to so many recipes and with the roasted flavor, it provides a wonderful enhancement to my foods – both meats and vegetables.
- Eat less meat and more vegetables. Vegetables have a high water content and more fiber than starches like pasta and potatoes. Cut back on your meat and increase those vegetables and you will be surprised that you fill up quicker. Doing so will cut back on the unhealthy fats while increasing your fiber and nutrients from vegetables.
- Drink a glass of water prior to eating. This simple step will decrease your caloric intake by up to 200 calories per meal. For added benefit of vitamin C, add some lemon to your water.
- Replace half your oil in baking with equal amounts of applesauce. Here’s another simple step to decrease the caloric intake. If your cake or muffin recipe calls for one cup of oil, replace half of that with applesauce. You won’t notice any taste difference and you’ll even benefit by having your finished product be even more moist.
- Stop eating three hours prior to bedtime. Go to bed at 10pm? Stop eating by 7pm. Your liver works the hardest at night while you sleep and if you give it 3 hours of rest prior to bedtime, you will be surprised at how much better you sleep.
- Eliminate refined sugar from your diet. I saved the biggest for last! Now, hold on…don’t get mad at me. I know this is a BIG sacrifice but you’ll just have to trust me. It will pay off big time! Refined sugar does so much damage to the body and causes so much inflammation throughout your system that by eliminating it, you will reap the benefits. Trust me…you will thank me!
Bonus Tip: Brush your teeth after dinner and your desire for sweet and salty foods will diminish greatly.
I hope these tips will empower you to make some changes so you can improve your health. I know I said that these shouldn’t be too challenging, and you may disagree, but give them a try. When you’ve accomplished this, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
To your health…
